My goal this year is to help students get lost in the magical world of books, starting with Matilda by Roald Dahl. My students will use the books for our unit on fantasy fiction. As we read together daily, students will work on fluency, analyzing characters, story mapping and making inferences. Many of the students in this class, in particular, are very quiet and self-conscious of their own abilities. By allowing them the opportunity to read aloud together, they are able to not only practice reading fluently with proper intonation, but also are able to build their confidence in speaking aloud.
