Most of our children haven't experienced much when they come into my classroom at just 4 years old. Over the last few years, a growing number are first year exposure English language learners. Playing with other children is crucial to their learning and developing the right skills to be successful when they enter into kindergarten the following year. We need these Legos to help facilitate play across languages and across backgrounds. To have Lego people that look as they do, and animals they may have only seen a photo of or perhaps never at all, or vehicles they have only ridden in, to build and take apart; this is what learning at its core is about-discovery though playing at this sweet age of four. We talk about people and various jobs they have and places they live, as well as where our food comes from. It blows the kids' minds that milk comes from cows! The farm and the people will be great supports to these concepts. Also, we disucss cars and buses and transportation too. These will be great ways to let the kids play with the vehicles.
