I plan to change my classroom completely to allow for a more inviting learning environment where students will be more comfortable and able to learn. With the environment I have now, I have desks, tables, and chairs. This requires students to sit the majority of their day. In my teaching, I do activities where students get up and move around as well as work in groups. However, there are times where sitting is necessary. For some students, sitting in a chair at a desk is a struggle in itself, much less the academic part of what is being taught. I want my students to be comfortable and able to sit or stand freely, given they are doing what is asked and expected. I allow many of my students now to stand at their desk rather than sit because this is how they learn best. These desks are not made for standing, but sitting, so the height is an issue for some. If this project would be funded, my students would benefit from having the choice to sit on a chair they can move in, such as a wobble chair or ball, to stand at a standing desk, or to sit in a regular chair. My ADD/ADH and autistic children would be able to have the freedom to move more while they are working, without being singled out or noticed as much. Using the balls and wobble chairs, my student's posture will improve because this forces them to sit up rather than lie back in the chairs. Overall, learning will improve and students will be more comfortable in the classroom.
