Take a stroll in our halls and you’ll meet interesting folks. You’ll hear stories of the remarkable camaraderie our body displayed after last year’s passing of a student and our determination to take care of the family financially. We face many typical challenges of inner city living, but we also have a school full of resilient leaders. Our students spend much of their day here, with so many after school possibilities that would make doing everything nearly impossible. So they commit to making this a place they want to be. It’s hard to find empty space on our walls. Our talented artists fill it so that your walk to the cafeteria might just make you think about the value of a face in a painting of a faceless crowd. Students have a tenacity for challenge. They’ve surprised me with requests to join the Science Olympiads and writing articles for the local op-ed. These surprises do not stand alone. Students push each other to be more which makes me proud to serve such a body.
