We have nearly 500 students in grades K-6 at our school, and all of them spend time in the Science Room during the school year. Our building is Title I and is located in a suburb of a large metro area. Many of our students are new to the country, language, and culture. A large number of students speak English as a second language. Our school is rich in diversity, with children from many different parts of the world making up our student body. Many of our students' families have financial and/or domestic challenges at home and an increasing number of our students are classified as homeless. As a school community we try very hard to ensure that our school is a safe and welcoming place where every student can achieve. The school's mission carries over into my science classroom as I strive to make sure all of my students feel safe to explore science and engineering concepts, and to express their thoughts and ideas, without fear of judgment.
