My students rule. They are creative individuals, and are full of questions and ideas about how things should be. They are also talented joke tellers, performers, and writers. Mount Vernon is a small neighborhood CPS school on the South Side of Chicago. Our school is categorized as a Title 1 school, and many students do not always receive the support they need at home. Students often encounter violence in their neighborhood. We try to make our school a second home for all students, with celebrations of student achievement, holiday parties, and an attitude of kindness and support towards all. Classrooms are cozy and colorful, with student work posted. Our school is a family.
