My students are challenged with varying communication and language impairments that impact how easily and effectively they understand and respond to the world around them. All too often, my students are seen for what they can’t do than for all that they can. As Special Education teachers, we have the unique challenge and special privilege of determining and providing the appropriate supports that give these students a voice and the opportunity to show all that they CAN do! My project is to help my students prove that they should not be underestimated! I want to create visual supports and utilize visual strategies throughout the year to help my students better understand rules and expectations, effectively engage in the daily routine, more easily transition throughout their day, communicate, better understand learning material, communicate socially, and decrease the frustration and negative behaviors associated with not understanding and not being able to be understood.
