My 2nd graders are very energetic and eager for knowledge. They love when I read to them. Unfortunately, many of my 26 students are reading below grade level. I hope to change this. I want them to feel successful at reading and it starts with building phonics and phonemic awareness which a lot of them still lack. I want to help my students get to the point of reading to learn. My school is located in a high-poverty area. I am teaching for the same school district where I attended school.
