I work with students who are on the Autism Spectrum. My class consists of students who are mostly non-verbal and have strong sensory needs. In my class we focus on learning necessary Adaptive Daily Living Skills and appropriate social skills. The students can exhibit challenging, physical behaviors when upset or frustrated. My students present with severe learning disabilities and sensory integrative dysfunction. I want to provide an enriched learning environment that would contain multi-sensory learning tools to help them cope, learn and adapt to their environment. Research has shown that utilizing various sensory modalities with children that are diagnosed with autism improves their overall academic experience.
