Flexible seating allows students to make choices about the work space that helps them most to learn. Last year, my students loved to have options when they sat down to read independently or work with a partner or small group. The most popular spots were the two folding camp chairs in our classroom library (borrowed from my sister, Molly...sorry, probably won't be getting those back!). They'd turn the chairs to face each other while reading to a partner, using clipboards to write their notes. When those spots were taken, students gathered around our circle table on stools, made a cozy spot sitting on their sweatshirts in a corner of our classroom, or found a place to lay on their stomach with a clipboard. I get it, we all want to be comfortable when we work! Having a comfortable place to read and work engages and motivates students in their learning. The items I selected will give my students a huge space to spread out while working independently or with a team. The carpet will also allow the whole class to meet together for team building and discussions on our latest book. Please support me to make this a reality for my students this year!
