I am requesting 25 copies of the book Wonder to share with my second-grade students( and any other teachers at my school that would like to use them). I have been very excited to read more complex texts with my students--but have held off because reading too them too long is a difficult task. If each student has their own copy of the text not only will they be more attentive, they will be able to comprehend the text better--they will also be able to go back and cite evidence. They will also be able to read individually, with partners and aloud to the class. All tasks they wouldn't be able to do without their own copy of the texts. As much as I love the aspect of "reading for fun," and Wonder is a wonderful book,--in this day and age we can't just "read for fun". We will be reading Wonder for several reasons, both aligning to our ELA curriculum (understanding different characters viewpoints) and our ELA standards. Furthermore, we will be discussing the themes of bullying throughout the story.
