While getting to know my students and finding out their interests, I was shocked to hear many of them say that they love to read biographies! In the past my students have been more likely to pick a fictional books. However, test scores show that students are in need of more experiences with nonfiction titles and since so many of my students are interested in biographies, I would like to add the "Who Was...?" books series to our classroom library. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve reading comprehension, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement across the core subject areas. Students will be able to read these biographies in class during the Daily 5 and at home for homework in order to fulfill their desire to learn about important people throughout history and today. In order to share what we are learning as we read we will complete engaging book reports about important historical figures.
