I teach at a Jr./Sr. High School in rural Indiana that has a population of approximately 450 students. Over the past few years our budget has decreased significantly forcing the community to use referendums to meet our financial needs. We are a Title I high school and approximately 50% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Some of the students are the first in their families to graduate from high school or to attend college. Of the students who do go to college, there is a less than desired percentage of each graduating class who actually graduate and earn a college degree. I am the only chemistry and physics teacher at the high school. Most of my chemistry students are sophomores and juniors, and my physics students are juniors and seniors. On the whole, I could not ask for a better place to be. The students are very well-mannered kids and participate actively in the unique elements of rural culture. I have few discipline problems in the classroom.
