85% of our school qualify for free/reduced lunches. Many of them are from homes with limited or no access to Internet and computers. My students have struggled with writing, but are excited when they are told that they can post it to their personal blogs that I have setup. These laptops will allow my students to share their opinions, write in a way that excites them, and is relatable to their generation while preparing them for the Florida Standards. We are a Title 1 school in a rural county. Our staff is working to equip classrooms with technology that will prepare students for rigorous state tests that have become entirely computer based. Starting next year, we will have one Chromebook lab that can be checked out between K-5 classrooms. However, with the FSA Writing test being solely computer based for 5th grade, being able to work with the Chromebooks multiple times a week has become a necessity that will be hard to meet while sharing these resources with all of the K-5 classes.
