Our school is located in a community in South Carolina. Ours is a rapidly growing area that is poised for major growth. We are in our second year as the combined population of two smaller middle schools with an academic magnet program that is expanding each year. The goal of this merger has been to make our school a high quality, public option for our community. Our school serves working-class families in the area, grades 6-8, about 600 students. A diverse population of students make up our school population, with about 62% African American students, 25% Caucasian students, 5% Hispanic students, and 2% Asian students. Students with disabilities make up 25.6% of our school population. Our students are eager to learn and are especially interested in activities that get them moving around, talking or working with their peers, or problem solving.
