My first grade students come to school every day ready to learn! They are always excited to share their ideas and work hard to be their best against many undesirable circumstances. All of my students live in a high poverty community in Chicago and rely on me to provide their supplies on a daily basis. I incorporate student choice in seating, activities, and partners. We have full group instruction as well as small group instructions. My students have individualized learning plans and work independently, with peers, on technology, or in small teacher led groups. Although many of them have made great growth, many of them are still below grade level. Every day, my students work hard to complete complex tasks and texts and work together using collaborative conversation to achieve mastery of a topic. I want to continue to provide them with the environment and supplies they need to create lifetime learners.
