When I was in elementary and middle school, the world was a very different place. "Technology" and "innovation" were words used only by companies like Sony and IBM. Today, the "techies" of this world are the next generation, and "innovation" has become a necessity for survival in the real world. As a former Engineer, I have seen first hand, how the knowledge and skills needed in the workplace have evolved dramatically in the last decade. I believe that my job as an educator has changed also. We can no longer assume that knowledge can translate into skills needed in the workplace. Students today, need an arena to not only showcase their knowledge and skills, but also be able to APPLY those skills in a real world application. As a Career & Technical Education (CTE) teacher, I believe that I have a unique opportunity to give my students the 21st century tools, as well as the arena to propel them.
