My students are mostly 9th graders. They are learning social justice lenses, critical thinking skills, and developing into amazing young adults. A lot of my students have problems with basic reading and writing skills. My students do no have access to technology and basic needs for school. A lot of students will ask me for computers to type papers, folders to organize bags, and a granola bar for hunger. As a Freshman English teacher I get the opportunity to create a space where students have one foot firmly in childhood and one food firmly in adulthood. I want to expose students to things outside of their community. My students are so smart and want to learn. They have life things going on that can make learning difficult. It is my goal to minimize the barriers that exist for students to learn. I want them to be the successful adults I know they can be.
