My wish is to replace the hard, boring chairs in my classroom with flexible seating - yoga balls, wiggle seats, comfy chairs, and yoga mats to create a learning environment that fits their needs. My students are not "traditional" sit and get students. They need to be active, mobile, working towards goals that make a difference in their communities. While we have an area to sit on the floor, my students would be thrilled to trade out their hard chair for a seating option that best allows them to focus and learn throughout the day. Various seating options require organization to maintain student supplies and the ability to work in different places around the room with ease. The easel and white boards will help achieve learning unrestricted to a set place in the room. Additionally, the use of flexible seating will be used in a calming corner to allow students who need it the ability to take a moment of break to refocus and come back to their seat ready to go. Not only would it benefit my class of students, but since my third grade team rotates students throughout the day, it would also allow those students who are in my room to find a way to help them focus, learn and achieve their own goals. And flexible seating isn't just for this year's students, but will extend years out to the future students in my grade level. By granting flexible seating to my classroom, students will focus better in class resulting in closing gaps in learning, achieving great things and making a positive difference in their community right now.
