I teach in a special education resource room setting in a suburban school in Colorado. My students are kindergarten through sixth grade students who have disabilities in reading, writing, math, emotional or behavioral skills, social skills, or other high incidence areas. Many of my students receive free or reduced lunch. My school follows an Expeditionary Learning model, which emphasizes authentic, deep understanding and real world application of skills. Within the school, I teach individualized lessons to fill in gaps and remediate skills. Since what I teach is often the most difficult subject for my students, they use movement to cope--they try to sit on their back chair legs, fidget, or go sharpen a pencil or get a tissue when they aren't yet ready to work on a challenging task. Some of my kiddos also have low muscle tone, so they lean when trying to attend to something hard. These chairs will increase focus and attention, build core muscles and use energy in a positive way!
