Second graders are at that magical age where they love to learn, so many experiences are new and exciting. They gobble up non-fiction with wonder. Their imaginations are prime for getting into a story and experiencing it along with the characters. Of course you have those who adore math! I am also finding that these students love the challenge of creating and engineering. Watching problem solving on so many levels is thrilling. My students come from various cultural backgrounds and are open to share their lives with each other. It's a new adventure every day seeing what each special, and individual student brings to the learning environment. I teach in a community with many challenges and many of my students have experienced trauma in their lives in one way or another. School is a place where they can feel loved, strong, and safe.
