I would like to create a safe and welcoming area where students are free to explore and read books as they grow as readers and writers. Research shows that children who spend time reading independently become better readers, score higher on achievement tests, and have greater content knowledge than those who do not. Creating an enticing and comfortable book nook for students with cozy chairs and reading lamps will encourage students' independent reading and exploration of books. The students' work in reading intervention is targeted small group instruction that meets each student at their personal level. Providing students with independent reading time in our book nook following instruction will allow them to practice and apply the skills and knowledge they gained in their intervention lesson.
