Welcome to my small world of big hearts! We need classroom tools and programs that will include all our students with disabilities in the daily classroom dialogue. For many of us, speaking and listening are skills that are as natural as breathing, but for these pre-school age boys and girls (4:1), their voices seem to be stored away in a safe-box. With the support of evidence based research, I have learned alternative ways to communicate with the students and to have them communicate within their environment. The fundamentals of labeling, requesting and commenting are treasures we seek, and will find with your support. Dr. Wayne Secord, an accomplished speech pathologist, professor, and researcher, said, "the thought precedes the spoken word, but without the language, the thought does not exist." Understanding and using the conventions of language is complex and beautiful. Help us share our thoughts and words!
