Due to the pandemic, my students have entered the virtual world for instruction this year. Virtual learning creates many problems for my students. They are mainly nonverbal and have a difficult time actively engaging in lessons without some method to communicate during the lessons. Pictures and objects are just not working for them. Communication is so important in all aspects of life. Without a way to communicate, we are isolated. Students who are nonverbal have a difficult time responding during lessons and demonstrating understanding and knowledge. As these students work from home, they are very limited when engaging in lessons. They often rely on adults to "speak" for them. If they had a communication device with two buttons, it would open up the world for them. Just imagine how it would feel to finally have a voice, to make choices, to answer yes/no. Think of how empowering that would be for them! I do so hope that you will consider donating to our project. This will make a difference in how they feel about themselves. Let's give these students the power of communication!
