Who doesn’t enjoy reading a magazine about various personal interests? Reading magazines is a fun and exciting way to engage students in the learning process. The pictures grab students’ attention while guiding their focus to the captions, labels and paragraphs about each picture. In addition, Time for Kids magazines present various types of questions that challenge students to think about the world that they live in. Furthermore, students will be exposed to topics that they would otherwise not be able to explore on their own. Time for Kids offers students a wide variety of information on current events, historical events, cultural traditions, scientific subjects and geographical areas around the world. Each week, every student will receive their own magazine that will be read and discussed in a whole group setting, before students will practice rereading the articles independently and within small groups of their peers. The questions at the end of each magazine will not only provide an evaluation of students comprehension of the information presented throughout the magazine, but challenge students to think about their newly learned information in diverse ways as it applies to their own lives. Your donations will help form the impressionable minds of my first graders in a fun and exciting way!
