As we work to prepare for testing, the students are sharing what can only be described as shredded dictionaries to help with spelling, definitions, and word choice. The students spend more time waiting to use a shredded dictionary than they do focusing on the writing tasks. Part of their testing scores come from a written piece, which is hard for an ELL student or even for someone who receives services especially if spelling is hard for them. I want them to feel like they are loved, that they can achieve anything, and that they are important. Using the dictionaries, they will create wonderful pieces of writing.
