My students come from very poor homes and many are homeless. We do our best to provide them with the basics to get them through the school day. But, for them to be successful I need more than the basics for them. I need books! They need books! I need for them to feel the ownership of having a good book in their hands. That one time a year that they all have the same book and they get to take it home, I get the best work out of them. They actually talk about the book outside the classroom. They tease their fellow classmates about upcoming events in the book. They are actually actively involved readers, and I love it!

About my class
