Our school is a high poverty school, with 80% of students receiving free or reduced rate lunches. Many languages are spoken at our school. Some of the languages spoken in our classroom are: Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, and Ukrainian. Many of my students are English Language learners. Since many of their parents do not speak English, students need quality instruction at school. Lessons taught incorporate explicit teaching of vocabulary through engaging books with visuals. Some of the students in my class are not internally motivated to learn. Therefore, engaging activities such as math games, science experiments and art need to be present to keep them interested in learning.
