Most, if not all, of my students have been affected by unfortunate or overwhelming situations. Throughout this school year, my students have had multiple opportunities to create in-depth projects that have enriched their learning, and they have thrived through the project-based model. Additionally, most of my students are very strong visual and kinesthetic learners. Our art-based projects give my students the ability to think outside of the box. My students truly need resources to continue their academic, emotional, and social development; however, our school has limited art supplies; it is a very small, low-income and high needs school with nearly 90% of our students qualifying for free and reduced meals. My students creativity and imagination is limited to colored pencils and collages made from old magazines. Giving my student tempera and acrylic paint, watercolor, brushes, glitters, papers, and sharpies will be like giving a child, who always dreamed of flying, wings.
