Many of my students will tell me they "don't like reading" and I always tell them they just haven't found the right book yet. Like anything else in life it is hard to be successful at something unless you have an interest or a passion. My goal is to give my second graders books that make them passionate, life long readers. In order to do this our classroom needs to have books that reflect the interests and lives of today's eight year old. Doing this requires me to constantly be adding new and exciting books to our classroom library. This is NOT a once every few years project. We all love walking into a bookstore and seeing the newest, inviting titles displayed on the shelves. The excitement to read in an environment like that is almost impossible not to ignore. That is my hope for the students entering my classroom.
