Our school is located in a mid sized town and is one of 30 schools in our district. It is a public school that serves approximately 850 students in grades K-8. We have around 63% of our students receiving free/reduced lunch. We have a high minority and English Second Language student population with a variety of socioeconomic groups. We have a hard working and dedicated staff that do their best to meet the needs of our students. I teach a reading intervention class called READ 180 & SYSTEM 44 for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. This is an intervention program that is designed by Scholastic. Read 180 uses key instructional strategies in order to support the teachers and help accelerate student achievement. READ 180 students are typically two grades levels below their current expectation and are in the program for two years. The instructional model is 20 min. of whole group instruction, 20 min. software, 20 min. independent reading, 20 min small group, and 10 min. wrap up.
