All of the students in my school have IEPs. They have a range of disabilities from emotional disturbance to learning disabilities. My school is in New York City and my students come from all five boroughs, some traveling for more than an hour by public transportation. As high school students, they are required to complete two credits of a foreign language for graduation. For many of my students, attending school is not a priority. They have very complicated lives which are often dominated by social service and probation appointments. Their schooling is often interrupted and therefore, gaining credits towards high school graduation is difficult.
