I teach at a large urban school with a diverse student population. Our school is represented almost equally by African-Americans, Caucasians, Hispanics, and Asian-Americans. Over 50% of the students at our school qualify for free and reduced lunch and many of them are learning English as a second language. The students at the school are faced with many difficulties including financial limitations, as well as, language and cultural barriers. However, the students remain incredibly driven and enroll in a wide range of academic classes including honors and AP classes as they strive to reach their dreams. I teach students in various academic levels as a biology teacher. I have a biology class that includes students with special needs, general biology courses, and honors biology courses. Some of my students are traditional freshman while others are students who are reattempting biology in order to graduate. As teens, they have lots of energy and desire to learn from interactive lessons.
