I am a fifth grade ELA/ Social Studies teacher. I have been teaching for 8 years. Teaching is truly my passion! I am raising funds to buy books for my classroom library. I would love to participate in the #classroombookaday challenge. The goal of this challenge is to read aloud a picture book every day of the school year. This challenge would allow me to positively affect my student's learning. Not only will I use these books to teach the fifth grade reading standards, I will also be teaching empathy, kindness, acceptance, diversity, perseverance, bravery, consideration, hope, adventure, hardships, values, friendship, curiosity, change, belonging, grace, importance, and most of all love! My goal is to bring enjoyment and meaning to reading for each and every one of my students! I feel my students would get double the benefit from these shared read alouds to build community and help to deepen their comprehension. The picture books I have chosen are also going to be used as mentor texts. I will teach my reading skills through novels and picture books, instead of a reading curriculum. This project will help my students create their love for reading!
