Our school is comprised of 85% English Language Learners and my classroom is full of kids who are eager to learn to read and write English as fast as they can. We are a high poverty population: everyone in our school receives a free lunch. Many of my students come from families with extremely challenging home lives. However, we are a motivated, driven bunch of kids. We are a Leader in Me school, and it shows. We are in charge of our learning and strive to push ourselves to greatness. Every day my class comes in eager to learn our new vocabulary words, sight words, or spelling pattern of the week. They challenge themselves by keeping track of their own reading data and setting goals for their learning. We really are capable of amazing things and we are so excited to see how much we will grow by the end of the year!
