My students are from low income families, where many times they aren't even being raised by parents, but older relatives or even grandparents. They are filled with the desire to want to learn and explore, but aren't afforded that opportunity, because of our rural location. Our school is on the very outskirts of our district, in a rural area with no daycare in the area and no type of businesses in our small rural community. Our school believes in Celebrating the Past, Conquering the Present, and Creating the Future. We teach our students that it doesn't matter what you have, but what you do with what you have been given. The closest library is 20 miles away and the closest electronics store is about 30 to 40 miles away.
