As 4th graders, we study the rich and colorful history of California. Our biggest project is Gold Rush Day. Students get to experience, hands-on, what it was like to be a new miner in California on a quest to strike it rich in gold. With our new class set of the great novel, By the Great Horn Spoon, and additional lesson guides we can now read the book together and also make sure each child has a copy of their own to quietly read on the carpet or during their free reading time. The novel is written in such an entertaining way the students never want to put the book down. Now, they don't have to.
