My students are children from around the world from Mexico to Gambia to Russia. I teach students K-5th grade in two schools in the suburbs of Atlanta. The students are so excited to learn and come to school every day with a natural motivation to learn about the American culture and the English Language. Students are engaged in hands-on authentic learning where they learn English Language Arts while they explore their native culture and the American community in which they live.
Many of the students live in homes where their parents and family members do not know English as well and are responsible for teaching their family about our American customs. The students bring a wide range of experiences and knowledge from across the world, share and explore together to learn more as they become acclimated to their new country. Although they are still responsible for the Common Core Standards, the students get 45 minutes a day to participate in ESOL Instruction.
