I teach third graders who are typically 8 and 9 years-old in a suburban elementary school in the Central Valley. Who wants to sit in a seat and do worksheets? Not us! We love to actively explore whatever we are learning, and we are frequently outside doing investigations and exploring. I find that the students learn so much better this way and that learning comes alive! We even take Saturday Family Field Trips with our families. Our favorite outing is a camping trip to Searles Lake in Trona where we mine for minerals with our families. You can see a picture of us digging in the mud on this page.
