Room 108 is a team of 22 second grade students. I have two students who receive special education and speech and language services. I have three students who have behavior intervention plans (BIPs), who require lots of support, intervention, and attention. There are eleven boys and girls that are English Language Learners, born and raised speaking Spanish. While I, and two other tutors help them acquire and apply English language skills, they are all teaching me to speak and understand Spanish. For the past six months they have taught me more about patience, love, and teaching, than my five years spent in college. My seven and eight year olds send me home exhausted and filled with pride every day. Every day we come to a school located in an urban school district of Connecticut. We spend seven hours a day in a classroom with five working desktop computers, a projector that we got half way through the year, and a smart board that simply exists for its white screen.
