Our school is 98% African-American and qualify for 100% free lunch. In a data driven environment teachers are often so focused on state learning standards and standardized tests that student learning becomes almost entirely worksheet-based. Project based learning is minimal. While our district has regained full accreditation we have a long way to go in helping students reach their fullest potential. The majority of our students are performing well below grade level and lack motivation. They have developed an "I can't attitude." They are full of energy and need an outlet for their creativity.
