Our school is part of a large urban school district. Our JROTC students do not receive any funding for extra curricular activities like the suburban districts can give. Our Cadets are proud and train just as hard even though their equipment is sometimes inferior to the competition. We have the largest Battalion of Cadets in the city which speaks volumes to the dedication of the students and families in our area. There are numerous electives these students can take, most of which are funded by the school, but these students have chosen to take a course designed to develop citizenship, leadership, service to country and personal responsibility. Events like the Raider Challenge give them the opportunity to work as a team and use problem steps to overcome obstacles. This training will provide a lifelong lesson for our students who typically will face more challenges due to their background.
