Just like adults, children don't want to sit in a hard chair for long periods of time. With flexible seating the kids get a choice as to where they want to sit and do their work. When students get a choice they are in charge of their learning. Students will be encouraged to find a spot in the room that fits their learning style. This will allow my students to be comfortable and want to engage more in their learning. Therefore, I need materials that enable students to be comfortable within the classroom. My goal is to make a classroom environment where my students are given a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them and will help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. The seating choices like the Gaiam Kids Balance Ball Chair, foam mats, and bedrest will allow my students to take charge of their learning in a way that makes them comfortable. The students will look forward to coming to school and learning if they get to work in a space that is comfortable and inviting to them.
