My school is located in a town of 8,416 people, in Bastrop County Texas. The city population is ethnically diverse with 35% of residents identified as Caucasian, 17% African-American, and 46% of Hispanic or Latino origins. The school population of 570 students reflects similar numbers in its diversity. The school is also identified as 70% economically challenged, making it a Title 1, low-income school in the state of Texas. According to state testing results, the school has met the Texas state standards for academic performance, yet we only had a 77% passing rate on the state reading assessment. Our students love to read and take advantage of their opportunity to visit the library every day.
