Wood unit blocks are hard and can be heavy. Which is great because as students build with them they are learning the basic laws of physics, as well as cause and effect. When they build something that is too tall and not supported well it falls and they learn to understand how to build it better and stronger. Unit blocks are also great at building math skills; the blocks are made in standard units. They break down into smaller pieces so you can match up the small parts to whole. It teaches students the foundation skills of fractions. It also builds students' spacial skills. Spacial skills help students make connections between a number and counting out that many of a number.
