We are a Title 1 school, with about 75% of our students receiving Free or Reduced Lunch. In addition, about 60% of our students come from homes where English is not the primary language. We have built up a Take-Home Reading program for our 1st graders, where every 1st grader borrows a bag of books to take home each week, and then switches the bag the next week. Many students and families rely on this resource, and they are disappointed when the program is not available anymore in 2nd grade. This Donors Choose project will provide a Take-Home Reading program tailored to the unique reading needs of our 2nd graders.
