I 8th grade students at a high-risk, high-impact school. We are fortunate to have a very supportive district, but we do not have the engaging literature students need to grow as readers. Efforts to build my students' background knowledge in all content areas are key, but It is also a challenge to provide a sense of relativity and connectedness to their lives -- they constantly need to be reminded of the value of education to their lives and their futures. By purchasing engaging literature, they are more motivated to read, and thus connect to the importance of the human condition through literature.

About my class
