I am the luckiest teacher I know!! My students are thirsty to learn all about their state, their nation, and their world. I teach a group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders after school. Their lessons are primarily hand on approaches to Social Studies and Science. The rural school where I teach is 75% low income, but that statistic does not prevent our excitement for learning. Ninety percent of students in the third, fourth and fifth grades attend a voluntary, non-funded after school program. Their parents provide the transportation and the teachers volunteer their time. Students are grouped into three subject specific (based on academic need) areas. Although I am requesting materials for a specific group, these materials will be utilized by all students attending our school. Our students love to get their hands, as well as their heads involved, and the materials will certainly promote that type of learning.
