The materials I am requesting will be used to give students practice using the skills they are learning in class in an authentic way. For example, when we learn about plants, we will use the plant props and create a classroom greenhouse/garden shop. Students will create the signs they need and can pretend to sell fruits and vegetables to others. They will learn about plants, labeling, writing for a purpose, reading, and even math skills by playing in this center. My students will be engaged in play that reinforces learning and lets them apply it in new ways. These materials coincide with units in our reading program so that students can deepen their understandings of the unit themes while using reading, writing, vocabulary, math, and communication skills in meaningful ways.
