The large rug would provide a special place to enjoy reading in a free space. Since the rug also incorporates math, students can practice their math facts by sitting around the perimeter with backs away from the multiplication chart for math fluency practice. My goal is to provide a comfortable and safe learning environment for my students. We also will be practicing mindfulness throughout the year. This practice teaches coping skills through the art of breathing. Since my third graders are experiencing numerous assessments, they really have benefited from this practice. It would be very exciting to experience mindful breathing and listening on the rug. In the past we would sit in chairs for our practice but ideally moving about on the rug would be amazing.
